Product focus: Swann DVR8-4550 surveillance system

A Swann surveillance system is helping a New South Wales blueberry farmer keep an eye on his assets from 17,000km away.

The farmer, Ben Gudex, has been operating the property with his business partner for over two years, but a recent decision to move to the UK has naturally meant it’s harder for him to stay in control of his farm and make sure it’s not being targeted by equipment or livestock thieves.

In addition, the farm is also home to the other business owner’s elderly father, and there has been concern for his wellbeing, especially in times when he wasn’t able to answer the phone due to poor mobile reception.

With all this in mind, the partners decided to implement a Swann surveillance system that has a remote viewing capability so that they can monitor their farm wherever they are via their smartphones, Macs or PCs.

The system chosen is the DVR8-4550 which is an 8-channel 1080p (Full HD) digital video recorder with four PRO-T853 cameras that allows live viewing on Apple and Android devices using a free SwannView Link app.

The owners can also play back video, which is useful should they notice that something suspicious has occurred on the property.

Swann says the cameras offer infrared night vision and durable construction for outdoor use, which makes them suitable for the farm.

More of the Swann PRO-T853 cameras can be added to the network as the farm grows in size.
