Mahindra celebrates 10 years Down Under

A decade since setting up shop in Australia, Mahindra is still going strong in the local tractor market with a new four-wheel drive tractor release on the cards.

It all began in 2004 when Mahindra decided to conduct extensive research on the Australian tractor market for expansion opportunities.  After realising its potential here, the company opened its first offices in Acacia Ridge, Brisbane on February 11, 2005.

Sagar Bhadkamkar was a member of Mahindra Australia’s initial team, and held the national manager position from 2009 to 2012.

“It’s the product and people — staff, dealers and customers that have made Mahindra such a success in Australia,” Bhadkamkar says.

Dealer Anthony Mangold from Thompsons Farm Gear in Wauchope, New South Wales recalls the first time he set eyes on the brand and its range of machinery.

“When I first saw the product in 2004 at the factory in India, we knew it was solid, dependable and reliable, but at that time it still had to prove itself,” he says.

“To see how well it has performed over the last 10 years, it continues to be one of the only two brands I stock and sell today.

“The next 10 years looks bright.”

From an initial dealer count of five in 2005, Mahindra’s dealer network in Australia has now grown to 45 outlets across the country in line with its product growth from a six-model range 10 years ago to a 17-model offering today.

Over the decade the company has achieved some major milestones. This includes receiving the coveted Japanese Quality medal for Total Quality Management in 2007.

According to the company, it was the first and only tractor manufacturer in the world to have received the accolade so far.

In 2010, Mahindra officially became the world’s largest tractor company by volume.

This year, Mahindra is more determined than ever to keep the momentum going by releasing a new 41hp (31kW) four-wheel drive tractor in Australia.

“The 4025 features a 41hp engine, 1.6-tonne lift on the linkage and great loader specification with 2.5-tonne axle load rating on the front axle and industrial tyres as standard,” says sales manager Satish Chandra.

“This makes a great utility tractor for small businesses that need the capability without the price.”

The new tractor will be priced from $25,990 with loader. See your nearest Mahindra dealer for more details.
