Cotton industry safety guide released

The latest cotton industry safety guide released by workplace health and safety information publisher Pro-Visual highlights equipment safety and the use of hazardous chemicals.

As hazardous chemicals pose a serious threat to the health of people and the environment, Pro-Visual says it is important for growers to comply with safety control measures in order to avoid potential problems related to the use of chemicals.

Some of the suggestions as published in the wall-mounted information chart include using the right protective gear when dealing with hazardous chemicals, and using lower hazard alternatives.

Cotton growers can also find information on the safe use of plant and equipment on-farm in the Cotton Industry Guide to Safety 2015/16.

In addition, the guide also highlighted a free online tool called my Best Management Practice Program (myBMP) which provides cotton growers with the latest information and research they need to run a successful and safe cotton production business.

According to Pro-Visual, some of the topics covered by the program include water management, soil health, fibre quality, pesticide management, biosecurity and more.

The cotton safety guide is distributed free of charge to all cotton growing businesses nationwide.
