From straw binding knotters in the 1920s to massive 410 horsepower tractors in 2013, Claas has come a long way in the global agricultural industry to reach its ‘top dog’ status today.
In the early 20th century, August Claas had a gutsy vision – to have a hand in developing the first European combine harvester.
But none of the other German agricultural machinery manufacturers would take on the challenge. Unfazed, the agricultural pioneer stepped out and said: “Then we’ll just do it on our own.”
In 1913, he registered a trade at the relevant office in Herzebrock in the Westphalian province in Germany, and the rest is history.
One whole century down the road, Claas has become one of the top guns in the global agricultural market, snapping up huge market shares with its tractors, harvesters, and balers.
Today, Claas is represented in several countries across the major continents of Europe, America and Asia; Australia included.
