Inside NFM’s July issue

NewFarmMachinery issue 11, July 2014 goes on-sale from July 14.

This month, we bring you a very special feature; with six leading tractor brands competing head to head for the title of ‘Best Tractor’ in the 2014 Top Tractor Shoot Out.

The sun was shining on the day of the test at the biennial Grasslandz 2014, a new machinery demonstration event in Waikaito, New Zealand, but the ground was a little worse for wear having had almost no rain for months.

This only made the tractors being judged work harder to prove themselves, especially when the Alpego power harrow was hooked up.

Contestants included the John Deere 6115M, Case IH Maxxum 110 XS, Deutz-Fahr Agrotron K420, Valtra N113, Claas Arion 530 CIS and Massey Ferguson 5455.

Manufacturers and dealers were given rigid instructions on the criteria for each tractor to ensure an even playing field. The competition was no mean feat for the judges.

So who will reign supreme? Don’t miss the verdict.

In addition, we checked out several other new machines, including:

On a chilly May morning, NFM Managing Director Anna Game-Lopata dropped by one of the world’s largest olive grove, situated 120km north-west of Bendigo to witness premium olive oil producer Boundary Bend’s annual olive harvest.

Last year, the business delivered 13.5 million litres of olive oil roughly equating to 60,000 tonne of fruit put through the processing plant.

So what makes them tick? Owners Paul Riordan and Rob McGavin says it all comes down to innovation and the willingness to invest in the latest technology. Pick up your copy of NFM issue 11 for the full story.

Also this issue, Col Jackson speaks with Ross and Christine Rolfe at their Queensland Central Highlands property, Birrong, about how they’re using telemetry to assist in the maintenance of animal nutrition and overcome the necessity to travel long distances.

Intrepid industry guru Dr Graeme Quick delivers part two of his earlier series on system performance with some tips on how to match tractors with the right implements and relates the engaging history of the world’s oldest farm machine.

Hay season is almost upon us and with that in mind, we have put together a 22-page rakes and tedders buyers’ guide to aid you in your next purchase.

We hope you continue enjoying the magazine and don’t forget to subscribe to have the issues delivered to your doorstep.
