New Massey Ferguson flagship line-up “most powerful ever built”

Iconic agricultural equipment brand Massey Ferguson has unveiled its highest powered tractor range yet, the MF 8700 series which offers up to 400hp.

The new line-up, which was launched at AGCO’s recent Vision of the Future expo held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, will take over the MF 8600 series as Massey Ferguson’s new flagship range.

Massey Ferguson says the new range which comprises of five models – the MF 8727, MF 8730, MF 8732, MF 8735 and MF 8737 is the most powerful the brand has ever built.

Like its predecessors, the MF 8700 range will offer the latest in AGCO’s engine technology – the AGCO POWER units which are Stage IV/Tier 4 final emissions regulations compliant and utilises Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology.

It also features several changes to the transmission, cab and controls for better performance, efficiency and ease of use.

Product Manager Tim Andrews is confident the new series will be well received among farmers.

“Fuel economy, reliability and simplicity are the most important considerations for farmers looking for a tractor in this power sector,” he says.

“The new MF 8700 series delivers even better performance and economy than the well-proven, award-winning MF 8600 series.”

AGCO POWER engine with SCR and EPM

The MF 8700 series features an AGCO POWER six-cylinder, 8.4 litre engine with Engine Power Management (EPM), third generation SCR technology with Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) and a new element of external Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) to meet strict Stage IV/Tier 4 final engine emissions standards.

The engines employ optimised high pressure common rail fuel injection, which limits the emissions of particulate matter (PM) and eliminates the need to fit a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).

Also new is a double stage turbocharger with electronic wastegate control, between which is fitted an air/water intercooler to further improve fuel economy.

The new EGR element is used to reduce the temperature and cut AdBlue and fuel consumption.

In addition, AGCO POWER’s Engine Power Management system now provides a 30hp power boost for PTO work and transport.

Massey Ferguson says while the features have been upgraded, the engine unit dimensions remain unchanged, allowing the slim bonnet design to be preserved so as to retain excellent forward and side visibility.

New cooling package

Massey Ferguson has introduced a new, higher capacity cooling package to further improve performance while still fitting neatly under the same bonnet.

With the new package, air is directed through a fuel cooler and then a Charge Air Cooler (CAC) where it increases speed through the intercooler. The pack also contains the water radiator, oil cooler and condenser.

A vent management system on the bonnet manages and splits the air flow to expel hotter air away while directing cooler, fresh air towards the main radiator. The filters and radiators are also easily accessed for daily maintenance.

Better controls

All new MF 8700 series tractors are available with T-lever transmission control or optional multi-pad on the right-hand console and new Datatronic 4 ISOBUS terminal, AGCOMMAND telemetry and factory ready for Auto-Guide 3000, guidance as standard.

The models are also equipped with a new slim dashboard with a larger 70mm x 52mm colour screen which Massey Ferguson says is 50 per cent larger than before with ten times better resolution and large improved graphics for easier reading in all light levels.

A new control layout on the cab ‘B’ pillar follows the familiar Massey Ferguson style, incorporating modules to operate the lights, PTO and rear linkage settings.
