VIDEO: Sturdy feed mill named 2014 Elmore Machine of the Year

Echuca's Northern Feed Systems (NFS) has snagged the Elmore Machine of the Year award for its Attrition Disc Mill which the company claims can mill different types of grain into one uniform size.

The award, sponsored by the Tractor and Machinery Association of Australia (TMA), was handed out at the recent 2014 Elmore Machinery field days which ran from October 7 to 9.

Winning the award was a nice surprise to the business, which has had the disc mill on the market for just over 12 months, NFS co-owner Ian Yeo says.

“It recognises all the hard work we’ve put in,” he says.

The Attrition Disc Mill was a product NFS developed over 18 months.

“The beauty of this machine is that it can mill all types of grains at once,” he says.

“You don’t have to buy another vertical mixer or other mixers to mix the grains once it’s been crushed.”

Yeo says owners can simply adjust the Attrition Disc Mill to suit their needs, making this a very versatile machine for livestock farmers.

“The speed of the machine and size of the screen determines the size of your crush. So if the farmer wants a finer crush you speed the rotor up,” he says.

According to Yeo, the Attrition Disc Mill is capable of producing about 5.5 tonne of wheat per hour.

Producing massive amounts of grain on a frequent basis will inevitably lead to wear and tear but Yeo says there have been no issues so far with the units NFS has sold.

“During our testing we found the wear on the teeth was a bit too quick so we put a spray-on tungsten on it,” he says.

“To this stage now over the 12 months this has been on the market, there have been no signs of wear on the teeth on the machines that have been sold.”
