Odyssey Bound tour operator Bill Crew has just received his spanking new John Deere Tractor.
It was a surreal moment when Bill Crew received a call from Bauer Trader Media late last year to tell him he’d just won a new John Deere tractor in a competition.
“I didn’t really believe it was true,” Bill says, “I never win competitions. My daughter filled out the form for me and sent it in.”
It just goes to show you have to be in it to win it.
Out of some 6000 entries over five months, the high end eco tour operator from Julatton, half an hour from Port Douglas in tropical north Queensland hit the jackpot.
Delivered recently by Cairns John Deere dealer Area Manager John Obern, Bill and his family were thrilled with the features of the machine and all wanted to have a ride.
“It’s just a beautiful tractor,” Bill says. “It’s absolutely wonderful and I think John Deere will be my brand of choice from now on.
“It’s a very well-built, well-made machine, I hardly want to get mud on it,” he adds.
Having been shown the ropes of the John Deere 5085 M, Bill admits he’s been putting off using the new tractor in a bid to keep it shiny.
But it’s a full time job preserving his one hundred acres of ancient trails and tracks through rainforest and monsoon forest eco destination tourists come to explore.
So it won’t be long before the JD will start work alongside the other two tractors Bill already owns.
“Tractors are always handy for slashing, keeping tracks open and keeping the place tidy,” Bill confirms.
“We grow a lot of rare plants, we have cassowaries, echidnas and platypus and we always have projects going on.”
Bill adds the John Deere fits in perfectly, being the perfect size and the ‘full package’ with all the accessories.
It’s a little smaller than the original 6100D on offer, but John Deere was happy to compromise in order to ensure the tractor fitted the prize-winning customer’s needs.
And Bill has already named the new tractor “Hollywood” to match the other bright green one in the shed dubbed “Bollywood”.
His thoughts on being the John Deere giveaway winner?
“I can’t think of anything better,” he enthuses.
The exclusive John Deere giveaway competition was held across several Bauer Trader Media print publications including Farms and Farm Machinery, New Farm Machinery and Blues Country magazine as well as on TradeFarmMachinery.com.au.
In addition to the main prize, two runner-up prizes of a John Deere JS48 Walk Behind Mower were also given away to Gayl Perkins of New South Wales and Paul Danson of Murrabit, Victoria.
