New MF windrower range debuts in Australia

The new WR9800 series of self-propelled windrowers from Massey Ferguson offers fuel efficiency, power and higher speeds.

Massey Ferguson’s new WR9800 series of self-propelled windrowers is built around its Agco Power trademark diesel engines, delivering a smoother, more consistent cut, and a quiet, comfortable ride.

With a 6.6-litre engine, the WR9870 model is best used with Massey Ferguson’s disc header and offers 225hp (167kW).

Product manager for hay equipment John Russell says the model is ideal for operating in heavy crop conditions like winter forage, wet silage hay and hilly or rough terrain.

The WR9860 meanwhile is designed to perform toe-to-toe with any 6 cylinder windrower.

Its 4.9-litre 4cylinder QuadBoost engine boasts 195hp (145kW) an increase on the previous model.

“This additional power provides a higher cutting speed of 27km/h, plus maximum road speed of 35km/h for quicker moves between fields,” Russell says.

“These two new machines build upon the industry-leading innovations introduced in 2011, when the WR Series debuted.

“Operators love the comfortable cab, the smooth ride of our GlideRider rear-axle suspension system and the responsive steering from our electro-hydraulic steering control system.”

A redesigned control handle is a significant addition to the WR9800 Series.

With a more ergonomic shape that easily fits the operator’s hand, the new poly handle has nine user-configured, programmable control buttons and two standard buttons, putting all machine and header functions in one location.

Operators can set the machine’s control functions to their own needs and preferences, including new control features such as load control and power shift.

Additional conveniences for the operator include a larger platform, for easier entry into the cab and more room to stand on when fueling the machine.

A new step for the ladder offers more windrow clearance, and a new location for the air filter provides handy stand-up servicing and more room to do so.

Finally, the oil tank gauge and toolbox have been moved to more convenient locations — finishing touches that are typical of the attention to detail found on Massey Ferguson hay equipment.

In addition the WR9800 Series’ electro-hydraulic steering system provides enhanced steering precision with quicker response time.

This means the windrowers are easier to drive without compromising steering control and stability. Operator fatigue is reduced as the force needed to move the steering wheel is lessened.

“Another popular feature is the proprietary V-Cool cooling system,” Russell says.

“This allows cool, fresh air to be drawn directly into the radiator without bringing in warmer air from another radiator.

“The V-Cool system contains a self-cleaning ‘purge’ cycle that reverses the fan, providing a blast of air to clear the air intake of chaff and debris, maintaining optimal engine temperature and significantly reducing maintenance.”
