VIDEO: Graytill expands into sprayer market

Local farm equipment manufacturer Graytill has dipped its toes in the spraying market by releasing two new sprayers – the SmartBoom ute-mounted sprayer and the VersiVolt 12-volt sprayer.

Both units were on display at the 2015 Henty Machinery Field Days and were entered into the Henty Machine of the Year award, which was eventually taken home by TPOS Fabrications for its Flatrac wheel track renovator.

According to Graytill founder and director Dave Grayling, the company started in 2011 with a focus on airseeders but later decided to expand its product range to offer a series of compact sprayers as well.

The company, based in Wellington in central western New South Wales prides itself in manufacturing quality machinery that are innovative yet easy to use.

SmartBoom ute-mounted sprayer

Graytill Smart Boom Sprayer

The SmartBoom sprayer features a mid-mounted self-levelling boom for optimum handling and weight distribution.

Standard sizes range from 10m up to 14m, with custom sizes and truck mounted models also available.

“It’s fully automatic so you can set your rate from the cab and just drive and it automatically turns sections on and off as you go,” Grayling says.

Boom height of the sprayer is controlled by an electric actuator that features adjustable limit stops.

“Basically it’s just a matter of pushing the switch and the boom will lift up and down,” Grayling says.

“It has adjustable limit stops so you can set your lower spray height. You can lift the boom to go up over the fence and drop it back down to where you had it and you know you’re in the right spot all the time.”

Another key feature of the SmartBoom, Grayling adds, is the electric fence line nozzles.

“They’re fully adjustable to suit how wide you want to spray, and you can turn them on and off from inside the cab,” he says.

However, a major benefit of the machine is its foldable booms which folds down to just two metres wide, overhanging the sides of most utes by less than 100mm for road legal transport.

The manual fold boom features ball bearing breakaways that are fully adjustable and automatically lock into transport and working positions.

The boom sprayer is powered by a Kohler 7hp electric start petrol engine which includes a high output charging coil to ensure the on-board battery is always charged.

Some other features of the SmartBoom include a low profile 800-litre tank (with other sizes also available), Bertolini triple diaphragm poly pump, fully welded RHS frame and a fold away ladder for easy access to the tank.

VersiVolt 12-volt sprayer

The Versivolt is a compact self-contained sprayer featuring a Seaflo 12-volt pump for trouble free operation.

“Usage for the 12-volt sprayer will be on smaller farms,” Grayling says.

“It is basically an all-in-one sprayer that you can use to spot spray weeds and do boom spraying with on your smaller paddocks.

“Mostly I would imagine them going on the back of a ute, but they also fit into a trailer so you can tow them behind and on an ATV or whatever vehicle you’ve got.”

A large range of heavy duty tanks is available for the VersiVolt, from 100 to 800 litres.

The tanks feature integrated baffles and carry handles (excluding the 100 litre tank), and are easily secured with a ratchet strap.

“A handy sight glass is installed on the tank for accurate filling, and the drain plug makes for easy emptying and cleaning of tanks,’’ Grayling says.

The Seaflo chemical pumps are rated for continuous duty, and are available in a range of flow rates and pressures from 7 l/min and 120psi up to 19 l/min and 80psi.

The VersiVolt is available with either six metres of 10mm spray hose or a retractable reel with 20m of 10mm spray hose.

All units include a wiring loom with an easy to access toggle switch. An inline fuse provides protection, while quick release plugs make removal from the vehicle easy.

According to Grayling, the company is now working on a boom to fit to the back of Graytill’s first spray equipment venture, the SmartSpray ute-mounted sprayer to make it a more versatile unit.

“We’ve only just finished it before the (Henty) field days so that’ll go through a bit of testing and then we’ll release that on to the market as well,” Grayling says.
