Several machines have been honoured at this year’s Tractor of the Year awards, with new categories allowing for an expanded honours list
Six machines have received the top gong during the 2025 Tractor of the Year awards, which were announced during last month’s EIMA exhibition in Italy.
An adjustment to the categories has split the ‘tractor of the year’ award into two, now honouring the year’s best high-power and mid-power tractor, while a new award celebrates the best in robotic technology.
Case IH won the high-power tractor of the year award for its Quadtrac 715 model, while Fendt’s 620 Vario DP was named the mid-power tractor of the year.
This was one of two awards for Fendt, with the e107 Vario also named as the sustainable tractor of the year.
The utility tractor of the year was Steyr’s 4120 Plus, which was one of two awards secured for parent company CNH Industrial alongside the success of the Case IH.
Antonio Carraro was another company to claim a win, with its Tony 8900 TRG named the specialised tractor of the year.
AgXeed – which is part of the Claas network – won the inaugural bot category for cabless autonomous tractors and field robots at the Tractor of the Year awards for its 5.115T2 model.
The wins have understandably been celebrated by the companies involved, including CNH Industrial.
“It’s a great honour for our Case IH and Steyr brands to be recognised with these awards,” CNH Industrial president for Europe, Middle East and Africa Carlo Alberto Sisto says.
“At CNH we are focused on bringing our customers cutting-edge products that boost their productivity and deliver greater profitability.”
The Tractor of the Year awards are voted by a panel of European journalists, with the jury outlining reasons why the winning machine was chosen over other finalists.
Case IH’s Quadtrac 715 was praised for its “superiority in performance, ergonomics, connectivity and environmental care, making it the most significant choice for large-scale agricultural operations.”
The jury also praised the balance “between sophisticated engineering and practical functionality, particularly regarding Case IH’s focus on weight distribution and minimising soil impact.”
The Quadtrac 715 has a rated power of 715 horsepower and maximum power of 778hp, making it capable of handling even the biggest jobs.
Its consideration of ground impact – along with commitment to sustainability – were highlighted by the jury, along with its innovative design and cutting-edge features.
Steyr’s “manoeuvrability, cab comfort, cutting-edge technology, and excellent engine performance” in the 4120 Plus model earned it the utility tractor awards.
Powered by a 3.6L engine which delivers a maximum of 117hp, its “perfect combination of versatility and modern agricultural technology” were praised by the jury, along with the spacious and quiet cabin that provides both functionality and ease-of-use.
Its technology, such as its advanced telematics, plus the brand’s dedication to innovation and “commitment to understanding the ever-changing needs of farmers” were also highlighted when giving this award.
Antonio Carraro’s recognition with the Tony 8900 TRG follows an earlier Tony model winning the same specialised tractor award in 2017.
This year, the jury said the “exceptional design, unparalleled versatility and superior performance of this tractor [make] it the ideal choice for specialised farming”.
Its versatility was praised due to its compact width of 1.4m and turning radius of 2.3m, making it ideal for tight spaces, along with its reversible seat to ensure precision in manoeuvres.
Comfort, power and agility were also highlights, as was its ability to maintain a quiet and comfortable environment inside the cabin while the 74.2hp engine is operating.
“Perfectly responding to the unique challenges of specialised farming”, the jury says its choice of the Antonio Carraro Tony 8900 TRG for this award was “clear”.
Fendt’s double recognition of the 620 Vario DP winning the mid-power award and the e107 Vario winning the sustainable award was celebrated by Fendt management board chairman Christoph Gröblinghoff, who also highlighted reasons that he believes both models excel.
“The Fendt 600 Vario fits perfectly into the newly created category of mid-range tractors,” he says.
“Farmers around the world are impressed by its manoeuvrability, compact size and strong performance.
“This series also brings technologies from the high-horsepower tractors, such as the low-speed concept and VarioDrive, into the power class up to 200hp, and thus meets the requirements of innovative businesses,” he says.
“With the Fendt e107 Vario, we are also introducing the electric drive into the standard version.
“This enables municipalities and farmers to significantly reduce their CO2 footprint while working efficiently and conserving resources.”
The last award was for AgXeed’s 5.115T2 in the newly created category.
A “combination of cutting-edge automation, practical integration with existing farming systems and overall superior field performance” earned AgXeed the inaugural honour, along with its “remarkable adaptability” and ability to integrate seamlessly with standard implements, thanks to its 8,000kg rear lift capacity and 4,000kg front lift capacity.
