Chamberlain 40K among vintage tractors to be auctioned

A personal collection of vintage tractors, many of which have been sourced from Australia, are to be auctioned

Ronnie Deering has spent more than 55 years building a collection of vintage tractors.

Based in Newtownards, Northern Ireland, his impressive collection includes tractors from 1918 to 1969 and provides many unique examples while also showcasing engineering history.

Ronnie has travelled the world to source these tractors, with many coming from Australia alongside others from the UK and Europe.

He has now decided to auction the collection, giving collectors the chance to acquire tractors with significant historical importance and many of which retain original features.

“Letting go of this collection hasn’t been an easy decision,” he says.

“These tractors have been part of my life for more than 50 years, and every one of them has a story behind it.

“I hope whoever buys them will enjoy them every bit as much as we did, and that they continue to be cared for and appreciated for the history they carry.”

One of the tractors being auctioned is a 1949 Chamberlain 40K, an Australian-made machine which was recently honoured through an 11.5m high replica being built as the World’s Biggest Tractor in Western Australia.

Other standout tractors in the auction include:

  • 1969 John Deere 4020 Classic Diesel Tractor
  • 1922 Case 12/20 Crossmotor Petrol/TVO
  • Fully Original 1938 Case Model L Petrol/TVO
  • 1949 Hanomag R45 with pitch pine cab

Ronnie’s 1922 Case 12/20 Crossmotor tractor also created history, helping to set the Guinness World Record for the most veteran tractors (4,572) ploughing simultaneously in 2007.

The tractors will be auctioned in Northern Ireland through Wilsons Auctions, and will be a timed online auction from Wednesday January 28 until Friday January 30.

“We are honoured to be entrusted to manage Ronnie’s lifelong collection through auction,” Wilsons Auctions plant, machinery and commercial manager Richard McFetridge says.

“It’s a privilege to offer buyers a rare opportunity to secure pieces of genuine agricultural history, and we expect strong interest from collectors across the UK and further afield.”
