Claas model wins Tractor of the Year

A new and powerful model from Claas has been named Tractor of the Year 2024

Claas is celebrating after its new Xerion 12.650 Terra Trac was named Tractor of the Year 2024 at Agritechnica.

The Xerion 12 was launched last year and boasts a maximum power output of 653hp and 3,100Nm of torque at just 1,300rpm.

“This is the most powerful four-wheel-drive tracked tractor on the market, plus it’s the only one equipped with a continuously variable transmission as standard,” Claas Harvest Centre product manager Shane Barratt said at the time of launch.

It is expected to become available in Australia during 2025.

The Xerion 12 is available in two models, and with the choice of wheels or the manufacturer’s Terra Trac concept.

The Tractor of the Year is decided by a panel of European journalists, which highlighted several features in choosing the Xerion 12.650 Terra Trac as the winner.

“Thanks to its four Tracs, this innovative design not only maximise traction but also effectively minimise soil compaction,” the jury said.

“Despite the immense power at its disposal and its massive dimensions, the Xerion is very easy to handle, thanks to the latest generation of the Cmatic continuously variable transmission with four mechanical ranges, assisted by the Cemos learning-based assistance system and information input to optimise transmission, traction and ballasting, with clear benefits in terms of performance and fuel consumption.

“Naturally, the new Xerion models are also much smarter, thanks to customisable packages for ISOBUS applications and precision agriculture.

“Customers can choose between GPS Pilot automatic guidance with various correction signals, online and offline activity management, and precision farming applications with section control and variable rate application.”

Claas also used Agritechnica to release a special edition Jaguar 990 Terra Trac forage harvester.

Marking 50 years of the manufacturer’s involvement in the self-propelled forage harvester market, the special edition model features “an exclusive anniversary colour scheme and graphics” along with all of Claas’ operator assistance systems.
