Last week’s Warrnambool district SunGold Fields days featured a smattering of new equipment from a variety of sources, adding spice to the annual event.
Greg Allan Farm Machinery was showing off a new silage loader wagon, the Lely Tigo PR 60 D. According to proprietor Greg Allan, the machine features "a completely different loading system, plus it has a shorter wheelbase which makes it easier to manoeuvre in a paddock." Mr Allen said it was the first time this machine had been shown in the southern hemisphere.
Meanwhile UTV manufacturers were fiercely competitive, with new releases both from Arctic Cat and Polaris.
Arctic Cat’s Barry French was demonstrating a new 700cc long-wheelbase diesel model, which he said was getting a very positive response in part because it shared the same fuel as the other working machinery on a property.
"Most farmers would prefer to have to store only diesel on their property," he said. The vehicle also runs a car-style alternator, making it suitable for a wide range of attachments.
Meanwhile Polaris had quietly slipped the new Sportsman Ace into its display – a week ahead of its formal national launch at Werribee. Polaris staff reported huge interest in the machine, which features a full roll cage.
Agri-Mac again won the award for the best display at the show, a reward in part for their efforts to raise money for the Peter’s Project (petersproject.org.au), which is in support of a new cancer ward at the local hospital.
The company also had fresh gear on display, including a Horsch Joker 6RT cultivator.
National Party leader and Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss visited the event and spoke about the importance of attracting investment into agriculture.
