Queensland’s biggest agricultural field days, FarmFest kicked off with a splattering of rain yesterday; an inconvenience for show-goers but certainly a reason for farmers to rejoice after a recent dry streak across the state.

FarmFest General Manager Barry Harley says he is delighted with the response to the event, with all sites sold out to a wide range of businesses in the agricultural and rural sectors.

"I must admit it is a little surprising because everyone in the agricultural and rural industries are facing challenges, and we expected to face those challenges too but over the last four or five weeks we have seen a flurry of interest and optimistic outlook which is pleasing," he says.

"We found that with this event, there’s still some life in the old dog yet because this is where the tactile experience happens," he adds.

"This is where you can get the full range of products and services which aren’t necessarily available at the dealership or at a town near you."

Over 2,500 exhibitors have booked a spot at the show to display their wares and services, ranging from education services to precision agriculture technology; and from tractors to irrigation pumps.

The field days is expected to attract over 60,000 visitors through the gates over the three days.

FarmFest continues tomorrow with weather expected to be partly cloudy but dry.
