Last year, the event celebrated its 50th anniversary and returned this year with new features, more exhibitors and a new president, Frank Harney who took over from immediate past-president David Trewick.

According to Harney, the reason for the event’s success over the last half-a-century is its location, which is smack in the middle of a mixed agricultural region.

“Two hours from here will get you to a lot of parts of the state; the bigger broadacre and dairy areas are just to the north of us, horticulture and grapes to the east and your hobby farm and sheep grazing to the south,” he says.

“So, geographically we’re in a tremendous spot to service a very broad section of the agricultural industry.”

Harney says the field days is not just for farmers and fans of large machinery.

“We’ve got over 700 exhibitors from the large machinery dealers down to the smaller lifestyle businesses, plus food and wine halls,” he says.

“The site is designed for the whole family to enjoy.”

A new addition to this year’s field days is the Taste Pavillion which showcases homemade and local produce from around Victoria including cider, cheese, jerky and preserves.

Other highlights of the event include sheep shearing demonstrations, an Ag Art Wear competition, machinery trials and the annual Elmore field days awards ceremony.

The awards aim to recognise the best and the latest machinery on the market, both imported and local.

NZ-based company Duncan Ag took home the Imported Machine of the Year award for its Renovator AS5000 airseeder which key feature is its foldable wing that allows for easy transport from farm to farm.

Meanwhile, a locally manufactured livestock handling system named Ezy Rollover Crush bagged the Australian Machine of the Year award.

Other award winners include:

  • Telstra Award for Technology and Innovation – AgLive Mobile Solutions by Austracker and Aglive
  • Tractor and Machinery Association of Australia Elmore Machine of the Year – Attrition Disc Mill by Northern Feed Systems.
