VIDEO: Strong rainfall translate to solid sales at Henty 2014

A combination of widespread rain and the school holidays has made the 2014 Henty Machinery Field Days (HMFD) a roaring success for both visitors and exhibitors, with some businesses selling millions of dollars’ worth of machinery over the three days.

The 51st HMFD ran from September 23 to 25 this year and attracted a crowd of about 60,000 to inspect the wide array of products and services presented by over 800 exhibitors.

A good mix of businesses made up the exhibitor list for this year, including livestock businesses; agricultural machinery manufacturers and distributors; rural lifestyle organisations etc, making the event one of the biggest and most comprehensive mixed farming field days in the country.

HMFD Chief Executive Officer Belinda Anderson says many exhibitors have recorded strong sales and enquiries as a result of the 20-40mm of rain received during the field days.

“We have received extremely positive feedback from exhibitors and the public- this will only encourage us further when we sit down in a couple of weeks to begin planning for 2015,” she says.

HMFD Chairman Ross Edwards is reporting the same sentiments from exhibitors and is confident in the success and longevity of the event.

“The reports I’m getting is that they’re very happy and very impressed with the improvements we’ve made to the site over the last 12 months,” he says.

“We’re in one of the best regions I believe in rural Australia, placed between Albury, Wodonga and Wagga Wagga, with close proximity to Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne.

“We think we’ve got one of the best exhibitions that we’ve ever had.”

Australian Earthmoving Supplies Sales Manger Alistair Hall reportedly sold 14 wheel loaders over the three days with plenty of forward orders.

“The real buyers were there – they had done their research on the internet and had come along to see us – that’s why the field days are so important for us in keeping our brand out there,” he says.

Norwood Farm Machinery successfully sold eight 100+hp tractors off its site during the field days, but Group Manager Ross Johansson says the larger machines have not received much attention.

“There was strong inquiry for hay and silage equipment but the larger equipment and harvesters were a bit slow because of the dry season,” he says.

Highlights of the field days include the Henty Machine of the Year award, which was presented to Tow and Farm for its Tow and Fert Multi 4000 fertiliser applicator.

Meanwhile, Coolamon Steelwork’s 50-tonne Crop Carrier chaser bin took home the Tractor and Machinery Association Award for best new Australian designed and built agricultural machine.

The 2015 Henty Machinery Field Days is set to make a return next year from September 22 to 24.
