VIDEO: Elmore 2015 finishes strong despite tough conditions

Despite a shaky start, the Elmore field days 2015 finished up with a bang last Thursday with organisers recording strong crowd numbers and overall positive response from exhibitors.

Less than ideal seasonal and weather conditions with temperatures soaring up to 35 degrees on the first day failed to stop about 32,000 people from streaming through the gates over the three days.

The event ran from October 6 to 8 this year.

According to Elmore field days spokesperson Sam Watkins, the organising committee and exhibitors are content with this year’s event even though crowd numbers are slightly down from last year.

“For us, it’s the quality and not quantity of the crowd that matters, and from what we can gather, visitors and exhibitors have went home happy,” she says.

In particular, presentations on mental health and drug addiction issues by several invited guest speakers at this year’s event have been very well received.

“We think there is a real need to address these issues,” Watkins says.

“If we can make a difference in just one person’s life, then we’ve achieved something.”

Every year, organisers present a series of awards to exhibitors recognising excellence in machinery and site design.

Some of the award winners this year include:

  • Australian Machine of the Year – Farm Pro’s Triple self-folding paddock roller
  • Technology and Innovation award – Topcon Precision Agriculture’s Electronic Control Unit
  • Imported Machine of the Year – Techgrow Agriculture’s Brochard manure spreader

Earlier this year, the organising committee made several infrastructural additions and improvements to the field days site in a bid to sustain both the Elmore field days and other events for the future.

The expansion project includes a new indoor agribusiness pavilion and an undercover pavilion built on concrete flooring.

“With the development of these infrastructure so as to keep the site fresh, vibrant and available for other events, hopefully that will keep cost down for exhibitors; keep our admission cost down for people so we become a more sustainable and viable business,” says Elmore field days president Frank Harney.

Other highlights of the field days include daily in-paddock machinery demonstrations, sheep and wool shearing demonstrations and an ag art wear competition.

Organisers are already commencing planning for next year’s event and encourage those interested to exhibit next year to contact them on 03 5432 6176 or by visiting the Elmore field days website.
