GRDC Grains Research Update 2017

The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) Grains Research update for 2017 will be held in Perth on February 27 and 28.

GRDC Western Regional Panel chairman Peter Roberts says the event is a source of important agronomic and industry information for WA grain growers.

“The GRDC Grains Research Update provides information on the latest innovations and research results and helps fine tune growers’ management strategies for the coming season,” he says.

“Last year, it was attended by more than 500 growers, advisers and other industry personnel.”

The conference will cover the impact of global consumer trends on the grains industry and the future for grain exports from Australia, whether ‘Big Data’ is hype or a necessity for grain growers, management strategies for frost, and unleashing the productive potential of soils.

Also on the agenda are management strategies for canola diseases, getting the most out of the grain enterprise on a mixed enterprise farm; and exploring new plant breeding directions and technologies, and the European experience with fungicide resistance.

Speaking on these topics will be Imperial College London emeritus professor of food marketing David Hughes, LMC International director David Jackson and Aarhus University (Denmark) Department of Agroecology senior scientist Lise Jorgensen.

Joining them will be visiting researcher Bruce Maxwell, professor of agroecology and applied plant ecology in the Department of Land Resources and Environmental Science at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana, US, and Simon Cook, the newly appointed WA premier’s research fellow in data analytics at Curtin and Murdoch Universities.
