Bumper August ahead for field days

Farmers and exhibitors are set to reconnect at the biggest month of field days since the COVID-19 pandemic started in 2020

AgQuip in New South Wales headlines a bumper August of events, which also features Tasmania’s Agfest and the Dowerin Field Days in Western Australia.

South Australia hosts the Eyre Peninsula Field Days, while Dowerin is preceded by the Mingenew Lions Midwest Expo and will be followed by the Newdegate Machinery Field Days, albeit being held in September.

Most significant on the list is AgQuip, which will be held for the first time since 2019 and is set to attract about 100,000 people to the regional NSW town of Gunnedah.

Taking place between Tuesday August 16 and Thursday August 18, more than 3,000 products and services are set to be on display.

Organisers are also offering discounted tickets when bought online in advance, reducing the daily adult entry price from $10 to $5.

The Dowerin Field Days are one of several major agricultural events this month

Another 20,000 people are tipped to walk through the gates of Eyre Peninsula Field Days, held in the town of Cleve between Tuesday August 9 and Thursday August 11.

Mingenew Lions Midwest Expo will be held on Friday August 12 in WA.

In the week following AgQuip, WA’s biggest agricultural event – the Dowerin Field Days – will take place on Wednesday August 24 and Thursday August 25.

This event was able to take place last year, although border restrictions meant many interstate visitors and exhibitors were unable to attend.

Organisers are expecting more than 24,000 visitors and 700 exhibitors to flock to Dowerin for the two-day event.

Tasmania gets its turn during the same week when the four-day Agfest takes place near Launceston.

Held between Wednesday August 24 and Saturday August 27, the event will occur later than usual after being postponed from its regular May slot.

Agfest was another event which did occur in 2021, although entry numbers were capped due to COVID restrictions.

Agfest’s virtual event – Agfest in the Cloud – will run from Saturday August 27 until Friday September 2.

WA’s run of field days then continues with the Newdegate Machinery Field Days on Wednesday September 7 and Thursday September 8.
