FEATURED: Claas Harvest Centre’s ‘everyday hero’

Claas Harvest Centre Gippsland Sales Consultant Shane Marshall is passionate about skydiving for a good cause on top of regular work with his busy agriculture machinery dealership.

It was supposed to be an average day.

Claas Harvest Centre Gippsland Sales Consultant Shane Marshall was travelling along the highway to set up a new fertiliser spreader for a customer, when all of a sudden, the tip truck driver ahead of him applied the brakes and pulled into a side street.

As Marshall drew closer, he saw there had just been a head-on collision.

“I jumped out of my car to see if I could help secure the cars from explosion,” Marshall recalls.

“A guy walked straight for me carrying a young girl. He looked me in the eye, saying ‘help me’ and handed me the young girl.

“I placed her down on the grass. She wasn’t breathing and had started to turn blue. We started CPR and worked on her until the paramedics arrived.”

Unfortunately the young girl and her mother didn’t make it, but her two brothers and father survived. Marshall says both brothers will need continual treatment for many years to come.

He says the experience motivated him to get involved with Canopies for Kids, an event run each Good Friday to raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) in Melbourne.

“Places like the RCH really help families in this type of situation and for that I am more than happy to contribute,” Marshall says.

“Canopies for Kids is a great new idea which drew heaps of attention and created an opportunity to raise a lot of money. It seemed like a given to get involved.”

In addition, Canopies for Kids enables Marshall to connect with what he loves doing most: skydiving.
