Today we learnt about the weird world of homemade tyre sawmills after finding this video of a fairly rudimentary – but apparently functional – bandsaw.
Our first thought was that it looks incredibly unsafe, even though the creator has gone to the effort of installing a guard to stop the band sliding off, as well as a dispenser for oil to lubricate the saw as it cuts the wood.
Thankfully we aren’t alone in our reservations, with the ever-entertaining YouTube ‘peanut gallery’ providing insightful commentary such as “Cool and stuff but looks like someday it will cut more than wood in half,” and “You need a lot of covers over blades and wheels. You couldn’t pay me enough money to use this machine.”
We stopped reading the comments after seeing someone who said “I’d add spinner hubcaps.”
