For 20 years, Australian company Geronimo Farm Equipment has been assembling and distributing Twister silos. The first two were built in New South Wales’ Cowra district, and were 250-tonne flat-bottom silos with fans and aeration that covered 60 per cent of the floor – pretty innovative for the time.

But Twister products have changed a lot since then: such as a takeover by Canadian company Ag Growth International (AGI); product updates; and now a newly designed Twister silo range, which has Geronimo excited.

The latest design is manufactured from G115 galvanised steel and features full-floor aeration, a new unload with a bigger sweep, and centre hopper.

"We have a new remote lid, sealing vents and state-of-the-art level indicators, which improves the product delivery and reliability to the client," Geronimo Farm Equipment’s Ashley Webster says. "Aeration was something we pushed, and the farmers took it on board. They now have total control of their grain by moving air and cold temperatures."

An added bonus of the new Twister silo is its ability to dry grain in the bins under the right conditions. Geronimo believes this will open up a large market for the summer croppers storing sorghum and corn, who find it hard to get their late-sown crops’ moisture down to acceptable levels at harvest time.

"By using Twister bins, they eliminate some of the risk and don’t have to get the grain dried for the sake of 1-2 per cent moisture," Webster adds.

Geronimo forms a large part of Twister’s production and is one of their biggest importers of bins in the world. The company has built Twister silos in every state in Australia and regularly builds 40,000 tonnes of Twister storage per year.

BROAD RANGE

Geronimo doesn’t just revolve around Twister silos, though. The Twister range also includes the farm flat-bottom bin market from 250-1,500-tonne. The Cowra-based company is also the biggest independent supplier of Brandt auger and belt conveyors in the world, allowing it to correctly pair a silo or bin with a Brandt auger or belt conveyor.

In addition, the company imports Chief bins from the United States, which are commissioned to the bigger commercial jobs that deal with handling equipment, elevators and conveyors.

"No job is too big or too small – we also have a range of cone bins we build on site ranging from 150-1,000-tonne if required," Webster says.

LOCAL WORKFORCE

Geronimo employs more than 60 Australian workers and operates full-time distribution centres at Cowra, Dubbo, Walgett, Moree and Northam in WA.

"We have the best contract crews in Australia who work exclusively for Geronimo," Webster says. "They do a superb job every time, on time.

"All work has an extensive 12-month warranty. Any job we do, we can custom quote if required. With the Cowra headquarters’ warehouse full of products – we can meet your needs every time."

Grain-handling installations are all overseen by Darren Nash (who has been with Geronimo since the company’s inception) and his full-time crew.

"He is the most experienced silo construction expert on in the industry and understands the products and the demands of it," Webster says.

Geronimo is excited about Australian agriculture and what the future will bring.

"We are looking forward to another 20 years of providing quality grain-handling and storage to Aussie farmers," Webster says.
