Berti mulchers designed for diverse use

Mulchers fit for everything from clearing pasture land through to a professional range for heavy vegetation regrowth are on offer through Italian manufacturer Berti

With more than 500 models available, Ag-Pride says Italian mulcher manufacturer Berti is sure to have a machine that meets the needs of any Australian farmer.

Lance Hills, product manager with Berti’s Australian distributor Ag-Pride Australia, says the Italian manufacturer is a family business that has grown and become extremely specialised in designing and producing industry leading machines in recent years.

With an insistence on using quality components, coupled with modern engineering and manufacturing processes, Berti Macchine Agricole SpA has been building agricultural machinery for more than 60 years, and has been selling in Australia for more than 35, he adds.

"They produce a large range of agricultural mulchers for tractors from 25 horsepower to 300hp [19kW to 224kW] such as pasture mulchers, orchard mulchers, vineyard mulchers, pick up mulchers and also a range of left-offset mulchers for roadside and municipal applications, forestry mulchers for heavy prunings and clearing of heavy vegetation," Hills says.

Beyond just providing a broad range of agricultural machines, Berti also produces a range of hydraulic driven mulchers known as its professional range.

These mulchers are for grass and heavy vegetation regrowth applications designed specifically to fit skid steer and compact track loaders, excavators between 1.5 tonnes and 30 tonnes, and hydraulic drive machines.

"They design and build them for an application, and they build quality into them," Hills says.

"They use quality components, and they don’t compromise on quality at all.

"Berti insists on using Italian-made gearboxes. The gears are all cut and lapped in Italy, producing a quieter gearbox.

"They use SKF and FAG-branded bearings throughout their production and very good high-performance steels such as Strenx and Hardox in many of the bodies and heavy wear parts.

"Their blade rotors, which are the heart of every machine, are made using specialised extruded steel tube for added strength and durability.

"The quality is what they’ve always focused on; they don’t build machines just to try and be the cheapest."

Hills says in pasture applications the EKR models are very popular with Ag-Pride customers for smaller tractors, offering standard features including a fixed and reversible three-point linkage, self-cleaning and adjustable rear rollers and forged and hardened Berti hammers.

The high-body TSB and LAND ranges for bigger tractors are another popular choice.

These are available with a height-adjustable levelling roller with scraper, rear adjustable discharge hood and the option of rear wheels, skids and a choice of blades or hammers if required.

Hills says an example of Berti’s ability to cater for different use requirements is its ability to design certain models for the municipal industry and specifically for roadside and embankment work.

"Ultimately, though, the emphasis Berti puts on quality from its Italian manufacturing plant and our commitment to genuine parts support here in Australia with genuine parts is what makes its Australian customers happy," he adds.

"A lot of customers comment about the good quality of cut in our pasture mulchers.

"When it comes to our orchard mulchers, it is the quality of finish and specifically the refinement of the prunings. You don’t end up with big chunks of wood at the back of the machine after a pass.

"We’re well regarded for the refinement of what comes out the back of our product.

"We do get repeat business – we have a lot of horticulture and viticulture customers that buy our machines because of the job they do, the long life which they get from the product and the after sales support with parts and service which we provide here in Australia."
