McCormick X8 tractors on Australian soil

McCormick X8 tractors are now available, with dealer days soon to get underway

The most powerful tractor ever produced by Italian manufacturer McCormick has arrived Down Under.

The first units in the X8 series, which will extend up to 310hp (231kW), have hit the New South Wales yards of distributor Clark Equipment.

Clark is planning a dealer day to showcase the new equipment and national product manager David Knoke says he is excited for customers to see the X8 in action.

“The push for reliability, quality and technology coming through the McCormick factory is mind-boggling,” he says.

“McCormick has always been known in the large horsepower tractor market, however, X8 has set a new standard and the bar has been raised.”

The X8 series will extend to 310hp (228kW)

McCormick’s X8 range includes three models – the X8.660, X8.670 and X8.680 – which vary in power from 264hp to 310hp (197kW to 231kW).

The maximum torque available ranges from 1,132Nm to 1,282Nm and all three models are fitted with 550L fuel tanks.

The extra power has been added to ensure the X8 can complete the biggest jobs with ease, while the cabin has been redesigned to ensure everything can be done with maximum operator comfort.

Described by McCormick as “your new office in first class”, the cabin is loaded with features for both luxury and practicality.

There is automatic adjustment, anti-vibration and backrest heating and ventilation on the swivel seat, a fridge compartment, 12V charging sockets, Bluetooth stereo and climate control.

An ergonomically designed controller allows all major tractor functions to be carried out with ease, while a sound insulation system helps to keep noise to only 70dB while doing so.

Rear hinged doors also provide complete and unobstructed visibility while cabin access is facilitated by both wide steps and the passenger seat folding away. The inside of the cabin is only part of the equation, though.

The tractors are powered by 6.7-litre, six-cylinder Iveco engines and have VT-Drive four-stage continuously variable transmission.

The X8’s hydraulic system features up to six rear-mounted remote valves, a three-way flow divider, two mid-mounted and three front-mounted remote valves.

It provides a total flow of 212L per minute and supplies 140L per minute to the 11 valves.

As part of McCormick’s emphasis on power, the X8 has a rugged chassis, heavy-duty front axle with independent wheels and a turning circle of only 11m. This has resulted in a weight distribution of 45 per cent at the front and 55 per cent at the rear, helping to reduce soil compaction.

More of the tractor’s power is transferred to the ground, which also helps to reduce cabin vibration and increase comfort.
