Veldonas explains farming pump range priorities

When planning your irrigation and pumping, expert advice from Veldonas will help you choose the right equipment for your needs

Planning and managing irrigation is an essential farm practice.

Various information portals are available to assist in this process, including state government agriculture department websites, while Melbourne- based pump supplier Veldonas also assists in devising and realising irrigation plans.

As a supplier of water management equipment, Veldonas director Gatis Gregors says knowing exactly when you need equipment is essential and end supply planning is extremely important.

“Most pieces of irrigation or water management equipment must be manufactured or assembled, as they are generally specific to individual requirements,” he says.

“Planning between two and six months in advance and ensuring that contingencies are in place is recommended to protect existing and future assets.

“As a supplier we know that specific pieces of equipment are needed at different times of the year.”

Gregors says different pieces of equipment have varying levels of priority.

He explains which pumps may be needed by farmers, in order from immediate priority to those that can be planned for later use.

Frost control pumps

Frost control pumps should be sourced immediately due to lead time for parts supplies and construction, he says.

Veldonas supplies medium (60 psi) to high pressure (140 psi) power take-off (PTO), diesel and electric pump sets for this use and other sizes can be supplied.

Effluent pumps

Effluent pumps are used all year round and should be ordered immediately due to supply times.

These can include PTO, diesel or electric chopper pumps that can operate irrigators if required. Veldonas supplies 10 litres/second to 150L/s medium and high pressure pump sets.

Irrigation pumps

There are many different types of irrigation systems that can be put in place to service agricultural assets. These include flood irrigation, centre pivot irrigators, lateral irrigators, fixed sprinklers, travelling irrigators and other equipment.

Veldonas supplies low to high pressure pumps that supply from 5L/s to 1,000L/s in PTO, diesel and electric configurations.

Pontoon pump sets can also be supplied.

Planning the supply of these units needs to be done soon due to potential supply delays.

Dust suppression pumps

Dust suppression pump supply should be planned soon due to lead time for parts, supplies and construction.

Veldonas supplies medium (60 psi) to high pressure (140 psi) PTO, diesel and electric pump sets for this use and other sizes can be supplied.

Fire control pumps

Like dust suppression pumps, fire control pump supply should also be planned soon due to lead time for parts, supplies and construction.

Veldonas supplies medium (40 psi) to high pressure (200 psi) PTO, diesel and electric pump sets for this use but other sizes can also be supplied.
