ProAgni a chance for startup award

Agriculture biotech startup ProAgni has continued its rise to prominence, being named among 10 global finalists in the US Beef Alliance’s inaugural Startup Challenge.

Based in Lavington, near the Victoria and NSW border, ProAgni aims to solve the sustainability issues faced by the meat industry by eliminating methane emissions from livestock and reducing reliance on antibiotics.

As a finalist in the Startup Challenge, ProAgni will this week pitch their product directly to US judges with the aim of winning a US$50,000 USD prize and the chance at a pilot with a Beef Alliance member company.

ProAgni was also recently named as a ‘startup to watch’ in 2021 by Rabobank as part of their global FoodBytes Program, one of just two Australian companies to receive that honour.

ProAgni CEO and co-founder Lachlan Campbell says his company had developed Australia’s first antibiotic-free livestock nutrition product.

“Using radical science, we’ve removed the requirement for non-therapeutic antibiotic use we see in livestock feeds without a cost burden to cattle producers,” he says.

“This product is a simple switch out. Commercial trials have also demonstrated significant gain increases compared to industry-standard feeds and all without the use of growth-promoting antibiotics.”

ProAgni has been chosen as a finalist from more than 30 initial entrants and will find out if they have won in the coming weeks, following the pitch on March 9.
