New Holland takes out SIMA medals

New Holland has claimed two medals at the SIMA 2021 Innovation Awards, with Kuhn and Smart Guided Systems also recognised.

Two new technologies in New Holland Harvesters won the company recognition at the SIMA Innovation awards

While organisers of France’s International Exhibition of Solutions and Technologies for Efficient and Sustainable Agriculture (SIMA) were compelled to call off this year’s event, the prestigious innovation awards showcase went ahead online last week.

Award winners include Kuhn, for its Aura autonomous mixer wagon; British potato farming manufacturer Downs for its CropVision optical grader; the VitiDrive universal controller for electric winegrowing machines and the Smart Guided Systems Smart Apply Spray Control System.

And the US-based New Holland stood out by taking out two medals – a silver medal in the From Harvest to Storage category for its NutriSense in-harvest nutrient analysis system; and a bronze medal in the Parts, Services and Onboard Electrics category for the cleaning system pressure sensors.

New Holland brand president Carlo Lambro says both technologies will help farmers increase efficiency and sustainability without losing profitability.

“The two innovations awarded today address two important issues they face with the harvest, helping them to make informed decisions – one with agronomic data they can use to market their crops most profitably, the other enables them to take proactive actions to reduce grain losses as they are harvesting,” he says.

The NutriSense in-harvest nutrient analysis system can measure crop composition during harvest time

New Holland’s NutriSense uses near infrared light (NIR) to analyse, record and map crop composition during harvest time – measuring data including grain grades, protein or fat content to help famers make informed decisions that will help maximise crop prices.

New Holland says with NutriSense, “customers can improve their agronomic knowledge of their fields.”

“By mapping the protein level in the grain, customers will also see the status of nitrogen exported by the plant, so that they will be able to midscale their nitrogen supply accordingly,” the company says.

The NIR system used in NutriSense is the same infrared technology employed on New Holland’s combines and forage harvesters for other functions such as measuring crop moisture and it will soon be available on New Holland large square balers.

New Holland’s cleaning system pressure sensors – which earned a bronze medal at the awards – help farmers harvest faster by anticipating cleaning shoe overloads.

The system measures the pressure in the cleaning shoe and up and below sieves and alerts the operator in real time when the system becomes overloaded using New Holland’s intelliview IV display, helping them make decisions to increase productivity and reduce losses.

In all, 100 innovations were entered into the awards by a collective 75 companies worldwide of which 40 were selected by SIMA’s expert panel to be nominated for an award across four different categories.
