Hustler Equipment grows NZ production capacity

New Zealand farming equipment manufacturer Hustler Equipment will effectively double its production capacity after acquiring the facilities of McLaren Stainless

Hustler, which specialises in feeding, handling and spraying equipment and has a strong Australian presence through its facility in Melbourne, will take over the facility at Hastings in the Hawke’s Bay region of New Zealand’s North Island.

The move will see Hustler gain an extra 4000 square metres of office, fabrication, plate processing and machining space, adding to the 8000sqm global headquarters the company already has.

Hustler says the move will "virtually double" its domestic production capacity and was prompted by global supply chain issues.

"This was a logical step to overcome some of the current supply chain challenges in the industry and to help us keep up with the global demand for Hustler’s innovation," Hustler Equipment CEO Brent Currie says.

"This new development enables us to expand our manufacturing and innovation capabilities and provides us with more in control of our supply chain, raw material inventories."

McLaren Stainless has manufactured food processing equipment for more than a century and has worked closely with Hustler for many years, providing expertise in subcontracted fabrication, plate processing and machining.

Key McLaren Stainless staff will be retained as part of the move.

The acquisition marks another step forward for Hustler, which recently opened an office and assembly plant in the United Kingdom to cater to the European market.

Hustler also plans to launch several new products later this year, including feeding and handling equipment, which Currie says is catering to increasing demand.

"Feeding out equipment is crucial for the farming industry as the global demand for dairy and meat products is steadily increasing," he says.

"We reached a point where it became necessary to find a solution to meet the demand of the farmers who did a fantastic job, keeping feeding the world in a pandemic context.

"Now, we must do our bit to help them to keep going by continuing to provide quickly available, innovative farming equipment and great customer service."
