On-sale January 21, this issue features a close-up look at the world’s first non-stop baler, the Krone Ultima; and how silos are built from the ground up on a pig farm in Victoria.
Technical writer Tom Dickson tracked down Australia’s first and only non-stop round baler from Krone to Barossa Valley-based Regari Contracting Principal and former motorcycle racer Craig Hage who introduced this latest baler to help speed up efficiency.
There are plenty of differences between this new baler and the existing Krone line-up but the most obvious is the fact that it never has to stop.
Hage estimates the machine has boosted his hourly production of wrapped silage from 45 to 50 bales per hour to around 80 to 85 bales.

Also this month, Dickson went to Ballarat to see some silo construction in progress.
“Since the amalgamation of Grain Services Inc (GSI) and AGCO, massive grain storage silos have begun to pop up around the country like the pyramids in the deserts of Egypt,” he says.
On a piggery just outside of Ballarat in Victoria, Melville Charles has not one but two 2500 ton GSI 40 series grain silos currently under construction.
Dickson witnessed for himself how employees of contracted builders Keogh Agricultural Services erected the silos: ring by ring; bolt by bolt until they reached massive heights of 20.76m. Read the full story in this issue and watch the video here.
