The new sprayers, the R4030 and R4038 will replace the 4730 and 4830 models respectively in John Deere's existing self-propelled sprayer line-up.
According to John Deere, the new sprayers offer greater productivity, more uptime, and reduced cost of operation while delivering faster, easier and more precise product application.
The 3000 litre R4030 sprayer features a 280hp, US EPA Tier 2 compliant 6.5 litre PowerTech engine with a four-wheel hydrostatic drive that can operate up to 32km/h in the field and 48km/h in transport.
The 3800 litre R4038 sprayer on the other hand, features a 310hp, US EPA Tier 2 compliant 9 litre PowerTech engine with a four-wheel hydrostatic drive that can operate up to 40km/h in the field and 56km/h in transport.
Both sprayers have redesigned flat-fold booms featuring widths of up to 36.6m and improved weight distribution, John Deere’s CommandView II cab with fully integrated Greenstar 3 2630 display, and the latest in tyre technologies.
A cruise control feature on the new models allows users to automatically control the vehicle to the target speed when the operator sets the engine speed and hydro handle at maximum positions.
John Deere says the new models can be converted to dry nutrient applicators by installing the New Leader dry spinner spreader which increases machine versatility.
John Deere application equipment Product Line Manager Brea Harms says both sprayers have been redesigned from the ground up to provide operators with timely, accurate application.
“”We’ve added the Solution Command System for push-button automated loading and a new front-fill option that makes loading easier and faster with three inch Quick Fill couplings at the front of the machine,” she says.
“On the redesigned flat-fold booms, we’ve incorporated the swing link suspension to improve in-field stability for more precise application.”
“The new tri-directional breakaway design and full-boom breakaway features help protect the booms and we’ve increased the number of boom sections to improve spray resolution by up to 33 per cent.”
In addition the sprayers’ CommandView II cab offers a wider side door opening for easier access, integrated machine controls and more glass for greater visibility.
The chassis sits on the dual strut independent wheel air-ride suspension, providing a smooth, stable ride at higher speeds; and auto air spring levelling keeps the chassis level at all times, including on uneven terrain and as the spray tank empties.
The R4030 and R4038 also come with a feature called Direct Injection Ready. This option gives operators the flexibility to change products between crops and manage chemical risk by allowing the operator to carry up to 511 litres of up to two raw chemicals outside of the primary solution tank. Other available options with the sprayers include AutoTrac, BoomTrac Pro, John Deere Section Control, JDLink (enabling Remote Display Access and Service ADVISOR Remote) and John Deere Mobile Weather.
“From front to back, we’ve made these new sprayers more durable, productive and comfortable, enabling producers and ag service providers to cover more ground quickly,” Harms says.
The R4030 and R4038 will join the current 2,271 litre John Deere 4630 and the 4,542 litre 4940 models to complete the self-propelled sprayer line.
The new models will be available in Australia and New Zealand from mid-2014.
