Kansas-based ag-equipment manufacturer Landoll says its new 7800 series tillage units are designed to offer farmers faster cultivation, effective residue management and soil conditioning in one pass.
The 7800 High Speed Landoll (HSL) tillage range is now available in Australia via Geronimo Farm Equipment.
According to Geronimo Farm Equipment National Sales Manager David Fagan, the units can be pulled up to 15km/h over the ground, almost two times faster than most normal disc cultivators.
“Most disc machines go over the ground and leave big ridges all over but the Landoll leaves a completely smooth soil surface when you’re finished,” he says.
The 7800 HSL series consists of six models altogether – two 3-point linkage units at widths of 4m and 4.5m; as well as four trailing models with widths of 7.5m, 9m, 10.5m and 12m.
Fagan says a unique design of the 7800 series is the mounting of the 24 inch blades which are individually torsion mounted. This helps relieve stress on the frame and blades when obstructions are encountered, maximising bearing life.
The machines’ bearings are further protected on the spindle side by an internally rotating 5 lip-seal, which is press-fit on both the spindle bolt and inside of the hub.
“This means the bearings are maintenance free and the machines can last longer,” Fagan says.
According to Landoll, the design of the disc shanks promotes smooth and consistent residue flow between the blades and limits the area where soil and residue will collect.
A floating hitch design on the trailing units allows the machines to follow irregular ground contours and maintain an even cutting depth.
“When it comes time to sow and there is a lot of trash on the ground and your seeder will not get through, the 7800 HSL will turn that paddock into a perfect sowing bed by turning all the trash back into the soil giving much wanted nutrients,” he says.
“At the back of each machine is a soil conditioning roller which then leaves the land dead flat.”
The heavy-duty conditioning reel serves to firm up the soil profile and break up clods as it passes through the ground, creating a smooth and flat seedbed in preparation for sowing.
Another benefit of the 7800 HSL units, Fagan says, is their ability to kill resistant weeds.
“Farmers nowadays are spending a lot on their spraying and have to go over the ground a number of times to kill the weeds that are competing with the crops,” he says.
“There are a number of weeds now that are resistant to spraying, so the only way you can really control those is by cutting them up using these disc machines.
“It doesn’t only cut and kill it but it also chops it into small pieces and buries it into the ground.”
The 7800 HSL series made its Australian debut at the recent AgQuip field days and will also be displayed at the upcoming Henty Machinery Field Days.
“It’s still early days for us but in Kansas, US where the machines were made; people have been using them successfully for about 12 months now,” Fagan says.
“Landoll has received very good reviews and customers have been very happy with their units.”
Fagan says interested customers can drop by Geronimo Farm Equipment’s stand at the Henty Machinery Field Days later this month to enquire about the range, or visit any of the company’s branches in Australia including its head office in Cowra, New South Wales and offices in Dubbo, Walgett and Moree.
The Henty Machinery Field Days will be held in Henty, NSW from September 22 to 24.
