Czech tyre manufacturer Mitas is releasing two new Cyclic Harvesting Operation (CHO) tyre sizes this month, as part of an extension of the CHO range.
The CHO range is specifically designed for combine harvesters to reduce excessive soil compaction during a harvest.
Mitas says the ‘hexacore’ technology, as well as steel breakers and flexible sidewalls, allows larger loads to run on lower-pressure tyres, protecting the soil.
Product manager Pavel Kott says the difference between a full and empty load on regular tyres is greater than people would expect.
“Cyclic loads – when filling and emptying corn tanks, for instance – can vary significantly, by more than twice in some cases. At high inflation pressures, this leads uncompromisingly to soil compaction.
“The solution is a Mitas CHO tyre as it is capable of carrying more load at a lower tyre pressure.”
Kott says major companies often use Mitas tyres as standard fitment, so Mitas has accommodated their needs in the new sizes.
“Mitas CHO tyres are a popular original fitment preferred by major combine harvester manufacturers,” he says.
“The range extension of CHO tyres is a direct response to their needs and tyre size specifications and we now offer nine sizes of CHO tires on worldwide markets.
“An additional three sizes will be released in first quarter of 2017.”
Mitas says the larger footprint and ability to carry heavier loads while minimising soil disturbance is what has led to the CHO range’s popularity.
Part of the Trelleborg group, Mitas has been manufacturing tyres since early in the 20th Century.
“The history of Mitas dates to the 1930s, when tyre production started in Prague, then the capital of Czechoslovakia, and in the Moravian city of Zlin,” the company says.
“Mitas currently operates three plants in the Czech Republic, one in Serbia and one in Charles City, Iowa.”
In Australia, Mitas operates a warehouse in Melbourne, which distributes nationwide.
