Toyota has added three new models to the Hilux range – the 4×4 double cab Rugged X, Rogue and Rugged – which were designed and developed in Australia with support from Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan and Toyota in Thailand.

“These three new HiLux heroes give customers a bold new choice in the market whether they are looking for a stylish and refined top-end ute for work and play or need enhanced protection, functionality and recovery capability for serious off-roading,” Toyota Australia vice president of sales and marketing Sean Hanley says.

“We know that the average HiLux customer already spends over $2000 on accessories for their vehicles so we looked at what those needs were from both a capability and style perspective and developed a raft of new features for HiLux.

“The Rugged X, Rogue and Rugged are not accessorised special editions, they are fully fledged new HiLux models that our customers demanded and we can be justifiably proud that they were designed and developed here in Australia,” Hanley says.

The Rugged X replaces the SR5 (which it is based on) at the top of the Hilux pecking order and has a particularly off-road focus. The new flagship dual cab comes with a winch-compatible heavy-duty steel front bar with an integrated bash plate, LED lightbar, driving lights, snorkel, integrated tow bar and side rock rails.

Inside, the Rugged X has all the comfort and style features of a premium double cab ute including leather seats and metallic black ornamentation and instrument cluster.

The Hilux Rogue is geared more towards more city-dwelling customers and feature redesigned front and rear ends reflecting the new ‘Toyota global truck DNA’.

As a fellow premium Hilux model, the Rogue gets the same interior features seen on the Rugged X and also sports a bespoke hard tonneau cover.

The third new Hilux, the Rugged, is based on the Hilux SR and is aimed at customers looking for the extra functionality and features of the Rugged X but with the protection of a traditional steel bullbar.

All three new Hilux models are powered by a 130kW 2.8-litre turbo diesel with a part-time shift on the fly 4×4 system.
