Massey Ferguson has introduced two new models to its sub-compact range that it says can be equipped to take on multiple tasks for commercial, residential and farm work.

The new 23 horsepower (17.1 kilowatts) GC 1723E and the 25hp (18.6kW) GC1725M replace MF’s 1705, 1715 and 1720 models, with styling similar to the larger tractors under the company banner.

Equipped with a diesel-powered and liquid fuelled 3-cylinder engine, the tractors feature a low-rated engine rpm that reduces vibration and noise, which it says will improve engine life and decrease fuel consumption.

MF parent company AGCO says the radiator and radiator fan are placed behind the engine in both models, pulling hot air away from the operator in order to keep both them and the engine cooler.

Hydrostatic foot pedals are on the right side of the platform, while the brake pedal is on the left side –both are spring-loaded and designed to return to a neutral position when released.

The tractors also have a two-range hydrostatic transmission with variable speeds, while cruise control can be accessed using an orange handle on the front dash panel.

MF compact tractors product manager Simon Van Kruining says improvements to styling, functionality and control placement made the new tractors a pleasure to operate.

“There are specification options to suit most users which will make them ideal for grounds-care and farm work, whether the job is commercial or residential, we’re confident the new range will get the job done efficiently,”  he says.

Those options include a front loader specifically tailored for the tractors and an optional 1.37m mowing deck, while the MF GC 1725M model can also be fitted with a quick-attached, self-standing backhoe.

Van Kruining says the boom float feature makes it easier for the operator to position the bucket; create an even floor bed in the cut and provide smooth grading operation when backfilling.

“Users today are looking for a comfortable tractor that is productive and versatile to tackle a range of tasks and they also expect it to be exceptional value – this is exactly what we are offering with the new MF GC Series,” he says.

The redesigned tractor seat has arm rests and can be adjusted for driving comfort, while adjustable tilt steering lets the operator position the steering wheel to match their height and preferences.

To improve overall operating performance for multiple functions, the hydraulic joystick is to the right side of the front console, putting the control lever within easy reach of the operator.

Its linkage provides smoother operation to reduce the amount of arm movement for the user, while a safety lockout lever prevents the operator from inadvertently bumping the joystick or operating the hydraulics when in the locked position.

The loader quick-attach design also allows the operator to effortlessly remove each attachment when necessary.

Other changes to the new models in the GC1700 Series range include new covered storage compartments for tools and other accessories, while a new flat floor design offers the operator plenty of space for leg movement.
