The newly unveiled next gen Claas Axion 900 tractor, boasting a 445hp six-cylinder engine, will be available for order in Australia next year.
Four new Axion 900 models will be released to Australia, with new features including an optimised CMATIC continuously variable transmission control, the choice of two operating systems and a maximum output of 325 to 445hp headlining the upgrades.
Dave Knowles, CLAAS Harvest Centre Group Product Manager, says the new series has undergone refinement to further improve performance and convenience.
“All models are capable of transferring their full power from a standing start and at all forward speeds without a boost,” Knowles says.
The Axion 900’s 6-cylinder FPT Cursor 9 engine introduces a new geometry turbo which Claas says delivers optimum charge-air pressure according to the current load and engine speed.
“In fact, 70 per cent of maximum torque is available even when idling.
“The advanced low-speed concept means the engine develops 18 percent more torque than previously at a lower speed, this reduces fuel consumption in all field and transport applications,” he adds.
Claas says fuel savings can be achieved automatically by reducing the idling speed from 800 to 650rpm when stationary.
When in ECO mode, the Axion can transfer 95 percent of its maximum engine output to the PTO shaft, which allows for heavy implement operation.
All new Axion 900 models come equipped with the updated, continuously variable ZF transmission previously used in the Axion 800.
Improved to operate at the higher power of the Axion 900, Knowles says the ZF transmission provides optimum efficiency between all speeds.
“This continuously variable transmission features outstanding power transmission and efficiency in all speed ranges from 0.05 to 50 km/h,” he says.
“Its new software further refines engine-transmission coordination and incorporates customer requirements under real-world conditions.”
Claas provides two operating display systems for customers, the new mid-tier Claas Information System Plus (CIS+) or the updated advanced Claas Electronic on-Board Information System (CEBIS).
The CIS+ system is targeted for customers who prefer convenience and efficiency without all the functionality in the CEBIS system.
“It offers customers the option of using the CMATIC continuously variable transmission without the CEBIS system,” Knowles says.
Load-sensing hydraulics, GPS steering, the six-way adjustable drawbar/universal tow hitch and the Claas telematics remote monitoring systems also come standard in all Axion 900 models.
The new Claas Axion 900 tractors will begin taking orders Australia and New Zealand from early 2018.
