Small farmers were looking for a small three-point linkage machine – and Brookfield delivered
Designed for vineyards and citrus and irrigation farm operators, Brookfield’s development of its CrossBar attachment was a new move for the company.
The family owned and operated agricultural machinery company, based in Cowra, NSW, typically develops products for the grain and livestock farming sector.
But living up to its philosophy that ‘there is always a better way’, the company recently identified the need for a new machine for inter-row renovation and weed control enabling smaller operators to improve soil health and cut chemical costs.
What they came up with is the CrossBar, a three-point linkage machine while being narrow enough to fit between the rows in vineyards and citrus farms and to level the wheel tracks it leaves behind.
The unit is ideal for lime and fertiliser incorporation and for light renovation to improve water intake. It can also be used for levelling farm roads, repairing bogged tracks and rows or levelling uneven surfaces.
Built with a unique cross design for levelling and seed bed preparation, the linkage model CrossBar offers the option of various disc combinations that can be easily adapted for varying soil conditions to maximise results.
The machine requires low maintenance and no specialised tools to adjust settings.
It follows the ground like a disc chain, but offering a different layout of discs in order to give a different finish, the company says – making it easier to set up and less expensive than its competitors.
The discs have a 66kg/m chain weight and are replaceable within the company’s dealer network (see table below) with a lead time of roughly six weeks.
The CrossBar is a compact and simple design, available in working widths of 1.5m, 2m and 3m and each with a transport height of 70cm.
The models require 40, 60 and 80 horsepower (29.8, 44.7 and 59.7kW) respectively and are available in sizes 1.5m, 2m and 3m.
