Victorian dairy farmer Bernie Ryan is the first Australian owner of a Mahindra mForce 100P, which he has owned for a little over a month.
After being revealed to the public at Elmore Field Days in October, the first Australian-sold example of the 100hp Mahindra tractors has already seen plenty of use on Ryan’s farm.
The 65-year-old Wangoom resident purchased the mForce from his local Class Harvest Centre in Colac from sales manager Trevor Bant.
“I bought my last tractor off Trevor at the Claas Harvest Centre 12 years ago and I went back to deal with him again,” Ryan says.
Mahindra says the tractor is well suited to rugged conditions, though Ryan says he’s not likely to be pushing his to the limit.
“I don’t have the time for as much tractor work as I used to because I’m milking a lot more cows these days, but I’ll be using it for feeding out and cleaning up, and I’ll sometimes put my post-rammer on and use it for general farm duties,” he says.
Other countries have had the mForce for longer than Australia – it’s been in the US for four years and in New Zealand for three.
Mahindra says the tractor has been performing well in those markets, and Ryan says his new mForce has been performing just as well on his own farm.
“We are very happy with it so far, it’s very good,” he says. “It’s quite comfortable to ride in and it seems to have plenty of torque there.
“I like how spacious and comfortable the cab is… it’s much better than the last tractor I had.
“The other factor is that it’s an extremely easy tractor to drive. My two sisters, who are both Melbourne-based, had a drive of it here on the weekend and they were both quite impressed at how easy it was.”
Bernie says that its simplicity one of the main reasons he’s so happy with the mForce: “All a lot of people want, is a tractor that’s not unnecessarily complicated to use, is strong and reliable, and well designed, and that’s what that tractor is.
“I could tell you that the seat is good too, but that might indicate that I spend too much time sitting on it.”
