Serafin Machinery’s SB2019 single disc opener has been “tidied up” to give it longer service intervals and greater versatility
The most recent upgrade to the single disc openers produced for Serafin Machinery’s single disc seeder range will help to improve seeding accuracy and reduce maintenance downtime, company sales manager Rodney Dunne says.
“We were pretty happy with the previous build and the last two upgrades; it was just the last couple of per cent of tidying things up and getting things where we want,” he says.
Dunne says that customers were seeking reduced maintenance, improved seed placement and more flexibility with its operating conditions.
“Tidying the disc hub and the disc hub bearing has basically halved our service interval now, so instead of having a hundred hour service it is one greasing point for the unit every 200 hours, which realistically will only be once or twice a season for most operators.”
Other changes to the disc hub bearing mean they no longer need to be pre-loaded – cutting out the need for the bearing to be retensioned and thus reducing maintenance needs, Dunne added.
The new seed boot has improved seed placement while the row unit width has been narrowed to 158mm on a two-rank machine, which Dunne says will help appeal to sheep and cattle farmers looking to grow pasture.
A re-designed mud scraper will also help with working in a larger variety of sowing conditions.
Manufactured by Brazilian company Baldan Machinery to Serafin’s specifications, the SB2019 range of discs can be retrofitted along the Ultisow range, Dunne says.
“One of the big things with some of these updates is that we are able to retrofit some of these improvements to older disc openers of ours as well, so that means that customers that have already got Serafin Ultisows will be able to update their units to the current unit,” he says.
“They can do that themselves quite easily.”
