Revolutionary Krone baler Oz bound

Krone’s Ultima baler wrapper, the first baler-wrapper combo in the world capable of operating fully automatically and non-stop, is headed for Australian shores

Krone Australia’s award-winning Ultima non-stop round baler will soon be available for sale locally.

Speaking exclusively to NewFarmMachinery at the recent Elmore Field Days, Krone Australia Product Manager Lars Pasedag confirmed the world’s first non-stop round baler will be unveiled in time for the 2014 or 2015 hay season.

The Krone Ultima non-stop round baler wrapper, currently available in Europe, is the first baler-wrapper combo in the world capable of operating fully automatically and non-stop. This means the combination keeps moving during the baling and unloading cycles.

The key to allowing continual forward movement throughout the baling process is the Ultima’s breakthrough design, which earned it the DLG Gold Medal at the world’s biggest agricultural show, Agritechnica, held in Hanover, Germany.

The Krone Ultima Chamber

With the Ultima, the crop collects inside the feed chamber while net wrapping of a completed bale is in progress. The feed chamber has one feed belt at the top and one at the bottom. The variable form of the feed chamber means it also serves as a pre-compression chamber. When the completed bale is ejected from the baler the accumulated crop is passed from the pre-compression chamber into the semi-variable baling chamber to complete the baling process.

Another feature of the Ultima is the higher ground clearance of the baling chamber, which allows the bale to drop right on the wrapping table — another detail that speeds up the bale-wrap cycle.

The award-winning baler also incorporates a new tractor implement management (TIM) system, which allows the baler to communicate with the tractor via Isobus, allowing the operator to adapt tractor speed automatically to the load on the baler and preventing overloading on the machine as well as ensuring the baler can perform a sufficient number of rotations to achieve maximum densities.

Field trials have shown the Ultima achieves up to 50 per cent higher work rates.

Bernard Krone, Managing Partner of the Germany-based transport and farm machinery manufacturer, says the company is “very happy and proud to have revolutionised round baler technology”.

“For nearly 40 years, baler wrappers had to stop for tying and unloading. Now we have finally found a non-stop solution, which will save our customers an enormous amount of time and, of course, money,” he notes.

Krone is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of round balers and offers variable chamber balers from 0.9m to 1.8m bale diameter with the Comprima and Fortima models in Australia.

The machines are renowned for baling reliably under all conditions, from very short dry straw to hay and wet silage, due to their slat elevator system.
