Krone is investing a large amount of resources to showcase the new Krone BigPack 1290 HDP HS. The high density, high speed baler is currently working its way from southern New South Wales all the way down to the southern parts of South Australia via Victoria.
Farmers and contractors that operate this type of machinery, or Key customers as Krone likes to refer to them, are invited to predetermined properties for the opportunity to view the baler press around 100 bales at each site. Members of the wider farming community are also encouraged to come and have a look.
Krone Product Manager, Lars Pasedag, spoke to New Farm Machinery saying;
The focus is the High throughput of the machine in combination with a high bale weight. This is achieved by the Power Feed Roller that is a driven roller on top of the pickup which helps push the crop into the packer or optional cutter. The pre chamber size is increased to allow the crop to go through the machine faster and the plunger speed is increased from 38 strokes to 45 strokes which again helps pushing the crop through at an increased rate.
“There are other machines coming on the market next year that claim to have improved density but they can’t get close to our BigPack 1290 HDP.”
“From the pickup through the Packer and into bale chamber everything is sped up.” Says Padesag.
He said the new model High density; High speed baler is capable of producing pasture, cereal and straw bales up to 25% heavier than any other four by three baler on the market.
“In Australia, one of the main challenges of hay baling is for the finished bale not to be too dry and chaffy. A lot of operators try to go out in the mornings or evenings when there’s a bit of moisture around, but during the day they have to stop when it gets too dry and at night they have to stop when it gets too wet. With a short daily window for quality haymaking, contractors and other hay producers want to create dense bales as quickly and efficiently as possible,” he says.
Other features include standard scales on the machine that always measure the bale weight with +/- 2% accuracy, a complete light kit with LED lights under the covers, in the needle area and pick up and swing out twine boxes easier maintenance and better access.
Padesag said a minimum 180 horsepower tractor will run the baler providing it is working on relatively flat ground. However to operate the Krone BigPack 1290 HDP to its full potential then a 250 horsepower tractor would be ideal.
