Heavy-duty hose and cable reel launched for hydro-mulching sector

Hose reel specialist ReCoila has unveiled its new T-series heavy-duty hose and cable reel to cater to the rapidly growing hydro mulching sector.

The new product is fabricated from welded, heavy gauge steel plates for rigidity and is made in carbon steel, stainless steel 304 and 316 or aluminium.

The series also includes a heavy-duty spring-loaded pin lock for safe operation during transit.

Hydro-mulching is a quick revegetation technique that sees seed and fertiliser mixed in a slurry of organic matter sprayed out onto prepared surfaces.

According to ReCoila, Australian councils and other administrative bodies are pushing for regeneration of disturbed native flora areas using hydro mulching as the method delivers revegetation within weeks.

The hydro-mulching is usually done from a moving truck, therefore ReCoila says there is the need for a heavy duty reel to maintain duty cycle and keep the hose tangle free.

Available in right-hand or left-hand configurations, the T-series units have an optional auxiliary bevel crank drive with disengaging drives. The ability to engage and disengage the bevel crank drive reduces wear on the drive system, noise and residual torque required to drive the traditionally engaged rewind system.

The crank connection point has been designed to allow the operator to rotate the crank drive from different angles. Alternatively, the reel could be operated remotely from a truck’s cab with the addition of a remote control unit.

The main axle is made from stainless steel to maintain strength and rigidity while preventing corrosion. Stainless steel fasteners are used where applicable.

The T-series has a heavy duty welded spool allowing the hose to be wound ’charged’ or ‘uncharged’, so it ensures there is no crushing effect if charging of empty hoses need to be carried out on the reel.

Full-flow high-volume, one and a half inch fluid paths are standard on all T-series reels.

Fluid paths are available in stainless steel, mild steel or brass. A high-quality baked on powder coat finish is provided giving three layers of corrosion protection for up to 1000 hours of salt test.

To prevent over-spooling, a standalone friction brake allows the operator to preset sufficient friction.

Rewind speeds have been designed to maintain acceptable and controlled rewinding of the hose while maintaining sufficient torque to rewind a fully charged hose.

ReCoila’s T-series reels are available with 12-24 VDC rewind motors, 110-240 VAC rewind motors, hydraulic rewind, pneumatic rewind, reduction drive bevel crank and hand crank options.
