Case IH unveils new generation of hay balers

Case IH has released the RB5 series of hay balers the company claims can offer up to 20 per cent increase in capacity and 5 per cent denser bales compared to its predecessor series - the RB4 range.

The new line-up consists of two models – the RB455 and RB465.

Case IH’s Product Manager for Hay and Harvest Geoff Rendell says the new variable chamber round balers are the result of three years’ rigorous worldwide field testing.

“We’re thrilled to present Australian producers with new levels of baling technology and performance,” he says.

“We tested the balers worldwide in a variety of conditions, and found that the RB5 series has an increased capacity of up to 20 per cent and a bale desnity improvement of up to 5 per cent over the previous RB4 series.”

“That’s no surprise, since the RB5 series pickup is made for greater capacity and durability. It combines cutting edge components, including a new overshot rotor pickup, perfect for more aggressive feeding.”

The RB455 and RB465 produce bales of up to 1.5m and 1.8m in diameter respectively.

Both models feature a new dual cylinder hydraulic density system. Rendell says the two cylinders produce 2000 psi each, thus providing more force than a single cylinder at 2600 psi and in turn increasing the bale density.

The pickup reel bars were increased from four to five in the new baler series, allowing farmers to get more consistent feeding, more efficient movement of crop from the pickup to the feeder, and more tynes to get all of the crop picked, specially short crops.

A 2m wide overhsot rotor pickup is also a new feature on the RB5 balers to allow  more aggressive feeding.

“This eliminates crop hesitation, resulting in a more consistent mat fed into the bale chamber, giving an even bale formation,” Rendell says.

“Plus, the in-line augers handle heavy think windrows, dramatically reducing the chance of plugging.”

The bale augers have been repositioned so the crop is fed into the centre line, thus increasing capacity. With the pickup guards being the same height, there’s a better transfer of the crop from the augers to the tractor.

Other new features on Case IH’s RB5 series balers are:

  • A new enhanced net wrap system with easy tractor hook-up
  • New optional twine wrap system for greater accuracy
  • More durable endless bale chamber belts
  • New in-cab controlled drop floor for rotor unplugging
  • Rubber mounted tynes for optimal performance
  • New endless belt with a true spliceleess design
  • Rotor feed and rotor cut configurations to choose from

In addition, both RB455 and RB465 balers feature a new ISOBUS electrical system for greater control. They come standard with the AFS Pro 3000 touch screen offering better graphics, easier navigation and a touch screen.

Otherwise, operators can choose to use the new balers with an existing virtual terminal in any ISOBUS-equipped tractor.

The RB5 series also feature a new CAN-based electrical system with an H-bridge used to control power to the electric motors. Case IH says the solid-state design is more durable than mechanical relays used previously.
