Brim says the company’s first diesel TM5 model adds extended capability to its rural and mining customers and take-up has been great.
"All Tomcars are built to last and are incredibly robust machines, Put simply, they’re the GoPro of cars, totally stripped back with hardcore raw functionality," he says.
"We’re on a mission to reinvent car manufacturing and to demonstrate, with the right business model and approach, that it’s possible to produce cars efficiently and effectively here in Australia"
Macfarlane congratulated Tomcar on the successful launch and says the project was further evidence of the ingenuity in the Australian manufacturing sector.
"Australian manufacturing is going through a significant transition, and while these changes are presenting challenges, they are also creating new opportunities for local industry to seize," he says.
"The future of manufacturing in Australia will be centred around innovation to meet new markets, develop new products and create new jobs in areas where Australia has a competitive strength."
All Tomcar models are hand built by a team at the MTM factory in Oakleigh, Victoria. Tomcar’s models have been utilised in multiple sectors across Australia including farming, mining, tourism, defence and emergency services.
The company adds it aims to produce 5,000 units over the next three to five years and plans to eventually employ 200 people.
Tomcar models can be purchased direct through Tomcar.com.au.
