McCormick unveils first CVT range

McCormick says its latest X7 tractor range with continuously variable drive will bring precise speed control to field operations.

McCormick United Kingdom distributor AgriArgo is set to launch the company’s first ever tractor with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) at the upcoming UK farm machinery expo, LAMMA.

The event, dubbed the UK’s largest farm machinery, equipment and agricultural services show, will be held on January 21 and 22 at the East of England Showground in Peterborough, UK.

“Our biggest ever display at LAMMA will certainly emphasise the scale and pace of product development for the McCormick range,” says AgriArgo general manager and sales director Ray Spinks.

“In 2014, we introduced the X7 Pro Drive powershift range, the high spec X6 Series mid-range tractors and the simpler ‘mechanical’ X6 ‘L’ tractors,” he says.

Spinks adds the “transformation” of the McCormick range continues in 2015 with new models at both ends of the size, power and technology spectrum.

The new X7 VT range builds on the 143hp to 212hp (106kW to 158kW) McCormick X7 Pro Drive tractors by replacing their 24×24 semi powershift transmission with a seamless CVT.

Five models will be available, a trio of 4 cylinder tractors with peak outputs of 143hp to 175hp (107kW to 130kW) (with power take-off [PTO]/transport boost) and two 6 cylinder machines with 175hp and 188hp (107kW and 140kW) top outputs.

All five models use the proven ZF Eccom CVT with McCormick control software and hardware to provide a full suite of operating modes to suit different field work and road transport situations.

The McCormick VT Drive will also feature Data Screen Manager, a large terminal providing enhanced setting up features for tractor functions, touchscreen control of ISOBus-equipped implements and displays for an integrated auto steering system.

At the other end of the scale, LAMMA 2015 will also be the launch pad for new McCormick tractors aimed at the livestock sector but suited to a wide range of applications.

The new X5 Series, with power outputs from 85hp to 113hp (63kW to 84kW) and a wide choice of synchro shuttle and power shuttle transmissions, has a hydraulic system upgraded to 63l/m plus a 30l/m dedicated steering pump.

It also boasts a new cab providing more space, a completely flat floor and improved visibility.

This cab is also an addition to four of the X4 range, those with outputs of 64hp, 69hp, 75hp and 76hp (48kW, 51kW, 56kW and 57kW).

With lower overall height, a shorter wheelbase and overall length the X4 delivers smaller versions of the 90hp to107hp (67kW to 80kW) X4 tractors introduced in 2014.

“They will be ideal for farms needing to access old buildings and other structures with restricted height and/or width,” Spinks says.
