The company, which recently appointed leading farm machinery dealership PFG as its exclusive Australian distributor, unveiled the new 4000 Seedmatic series at the PFG/Howard dealer conference in Derrimut, Victoria last week.

Aitchison’s 4000 series comprises of six models, offering seed-only as well as seed-and-fert configurations. Customers can also choose between three-point linkage or trailing models.

Reese Agri, which manufactures and distributes the Aitchison brand in New Zealand, sent sales manager Jon Norfolk to introduce the range to over 100 dealers who attended the conference.

“We’ve greatly improved the features of this range, and we see this as the ideal drill for the medium to large farmer and also contractor,” he says.

Some of the main changes Aitchison made to the 4000 series include reducing the tine spacing from six inches to five inches, as well as slim lining the tine castings for better tilth function.

Larger 350mm disc coulters have also been fitted to help the drill sow through heavy residue and encourage penetration of the vibrating coil tine.

The discs are mounted in pairs, protected with spring release suspension and have manual height adjustment.

“We’ve also got the rodent slide which helps stop pesky rodents from chewing through the sponge pads,” Norfolk says.

“The 4000 series do have the sponge feeding system which we will never go away from because it’s very accurate and gives farmers the opportunity to sow any type of seeds, from 1kg to 350kg per hectare.”

An infinitely variable gearbox allows low rate sowing of small seeds like millet and clovers as well as high rate sowing of pasture mixes.

At the rear, Aitchison has fitted a large and easy-to-mount platform with safety rails. Both the seeding and fertiliser box lids feature pneumatic stays as standard to assist with opening and closing.

Both the single and double box units are available in 2.92m, 3.42m and 3.92m widths consisting of 20, 24 and 28 tines respectively.

A road transport kit comes standard on the 4128CT and 4028CT drills, making it an ideal machine for contractors. Other features including LED lighting, rodent slide and tow hitch comes standard across all models.

RRP of the 4000 series Seedmatic drills kicks off at $25,550 plus GST.
