German ag-equipment specialist Amazone’s 12,000-litre capacity trailed sprayer has been crowned 'Machine of the Year' at the 2015 Wimmera Machinery Field Days.

In September last year, the very same machine set the world record for the largest area sprayed within 24 hours, covering an impressive 1032 hectares in one day.

The technologically advanced Amazone UX11200 features twin axle steering, hydro-pneumatic suspension, high capacity pumps and advanced section control technology.

Amazone product manager Craig Hopkins says the brand’s flagship sprayer features the same ‘speed spraying’ design principles employed across the UX series.

"Everything about the UX11200 is designed to maximise spraying time and minimise the non-productive time," he says.

Twin axles

The UX11200 features twin axles, each fitted with 520mm x 1.95m tractor tyres on a width of 2 to 2.5m.

It is equipped with a self-steering rear axle as standard but can be specified with an electronically-controlled twin axle steering system for optimum tracking and manoeuvrability.

With the standard rear axle SingleTrail system, the front axle remains rigid and the second one is steered, hence achieving a tight turning radius without scrubbing the tyres or creating unwanted tracks.

The twin-axle steering system, or DoubleTrail, features a front axle that follows the tracks of the rear wheels while the second axle follows the tracks of the tractor’s front wheels.

"This means the spray unit follows the tractor perfectly and more importantly, means that the boom ride is unaffected by any steering movements," Hopkins says.

Hydro-pneumatic suspension

The UX11200’s hydro-pneumatic suspension maintains an even weight distribution across both axles at all times, which Amazone says is particularly useful when spraying on undulating or sloping terrain.

The hitch drawbar which includes a hydraulic stand is fitted with a damping system that permits a temporary increase of the drawbar load from three to four tonnes with a filled machine.

"Combined with an automatic braking system and roll stabilisation as standard, these features ensure the UX11200 has impeccable manners, both in the field and on the road," Hopkins says.

Despite its size, the UX11200 has a narrow transport width of 2.8m and a top road speed of 50km/h.

Booms and pumps

Amazone’s Super-L booms, available in working widths of 24 to 40m are supplied as standard.

"The tried-and-tested modular design of these booms is based on the same principles used in aviation – they are incredibly light yet extremely strong," Hopkins says.

The high capacity, 12-diaphragm pump provides effective agitation throughout operation, even at high application rates or when preparing complex tank mixes.

The UX11200 can also be equipped with a high flow option that allows up to 2,000 L/ha of liquid fertiliser to be applied at normal forward speeds.

Intelligent load-sensing

An intelligent load-sensing system fitted on the UX11200 automatically adjusts hydraulic pressure.

"When operating in the field, the pump runs at 480 rpm and provides a thoughput of about 750 litres/min, which is more than ample for normal application rates," Hopkins says.

"During transport, the pump speed is automatically reduced to 400 rpm to maintain constant agitation without consuming unnecessary power.

"The pump speed is increased to 540 rpm to achieve a filling rate of 900 litres/minute when using the 10cm suction hose."

Amatron 3 control

All hydraulic, pump and spraying operations are controlled via Amazone’s new ISOBUS-compatible Amatron 3 controller.

In Auto-Lift mode, the boom will maintain its pre-set height from 0.5m to 2.5m and automatically lift whenever the machine is switched off.

When the Distance-Control function is engaged, the boom height and tilt will automatically follow the crop surface and then lift at the headlands.

"These automatic systems mean the operator only has to concentrate on driving, rather than constantly making adjustments to achieve optimum spraying performance," Hopkins says.

The Amatron 3 unit features illuminated keys and a high resolution, contrast-rich display.

"All the information about the control of the sprayer is shown on the one display, including the optional GPS-Switch section control, GPS-Track guidance and GPS-Application mapping systems," Hopkins adds.

Other features of the UX11200 include a covered work station with in-built LED lighting, a rotary nozzle in the induction bowl for fast and easy drum rinsing, twin freshwater tanks with 900-litre capacity and eight sequentially-switched internal cleansing nozzles.

The annual Wimmera Machinery field days was held from March 3 to 5 this year.

The other product award handed out at the field days, 'Agribusiness Innovation of the Year', was taken home by Next Instruments for its innovative CropScan 3000 grain analysing system.
