For New Farm Machinery magazine’s April 2015 issue, on-sale March 30, we tested the award-winning Case IH Magnum 380 Rowtrac and the Dieci Series 7 Poultry Pro telehandler.

The Case IH Magnum 380 Rowtrac had literally just rolled off the boat when Tom Dickson trialled it in South Australia.

"Comfortable, simple, usable, manoeuvrable, powerful and accessible" are a few of the descriptive words he uses to describe it.

"How does it handle? Like a sports car. The one memory that stands out most clearly relates to ground disturbance, or more accurately the lack of it," Dickson relates.

Check out his full appraisal in this issue. Watch the video.

Our spread of machinery tests in this issue include:

  • Househam Veg Boss self-propelled sprayer (watch the video)
  • Dieci Series 7 Poultry Pro telehandler
  • Ag-Tech Industries Lifeguard ATV roll bar
  • Väderstad Tempo TPF8 precision planter

Organic produce is steadily gaining a reputation with consumers and can fetch a premium for producers but running a viable operation while matching your ethics can pose a problem for some. Not for 2014 Young Farmer of the Year Nathan Free, who runs the Wattle Organic Group.

Managing editor Anna Game-Lopata sits down with Free to find out what he’s doing differently from others to make it all work. Watch the video.

Also in this issue, Col Jackson takes a look at robots controlled by satellite, a subject currently grabbing the attention of many sectors including agriculture. Col takes a look at the development of this technology and its testing within the Australian rice industry.

Also taking a different angle this issue is Dr Graeme Quick, who offers some interesting facts about the physics of farm fencing and provides related suggestions for a fresh approach.

Finally, this issue of New Farm Machinery magazine will feature a 14-page comprehensive buyers’ guide to telescopic handlers.
