International farm implement manufacturer Kuhn has lifted the lid on its latest range of mower-conditioners- the FC 1060 series at the company’s recent Machinery Expo and demo day in Deer Park, Victoria.

On the day, the FC 4060 TCD model from the new range was demonstrated to a big crowd of farmers and dealers who attended the event. The machine has a working width of four metres and utilises Kuhn’s Optidisc cutter bar with a quick-release knife mounting system.

The range consists of three models – the FC 3160 TCD with a 3.1m working width, the FC 3560 TCD with 3.5m working width and the FC 4060 TCD.

The FC 4060 TCD is a centre-pull machine with nine-cutting discs and pivoting steel fingers for faster mowing, wide swathing and efficient conditioning.

According to Kuhn, a tractor with 94 PTO horsepower is sufficient to operate the machine.

As it allows clean, fast mowing of either heavy grasses or delicate forage crops and offers quick drydown from effective conditioning, Kuhn says the range is suitable for both contractors and farmers.

The FC 1060 series’ mowing unit is suspended by torsion bars that follows the paddock contours and can be adjusted separately on both sides to keep dirt out of the forage. The large tyres on the units reduce pressure to the ground to prevent soil compaction and damage to the crops.

Kuhn adds the task of adjusting cutting height and conditioning intensity can be done with ease so operators can suit the machine for all types of crops. Windrow widths for the FC 4060 TCD are adjustable from 1.1m to 2.7m.

The machine also features a heavy duty Gyrodine swivel hitch that allows turns in excess of 90 per cent, keeping the PTO driveline straight. This means enhanced reliability and safety with high manoeuvrability.

The FC 1060 series utilises Kuhn’s tried and tested Optisidc cutter bar technology which Kuhn says is the fruit of over 40 years of experience in the field of disc mowers.

The unit is characterised by the difference in axis to axis distance between its converging and diverging discs. As the distance between the converging discs grows, the passage for the cut forage increases hence improving rearward ejection of the crop.

As the spaces between the diverging discs gets narrower, the recut area is larger thus improving the quality of the cut especially in light or short forage.

The sealed gearbox is wear resistant and features a patented Protectadrive safety characterised by a shear groove located on the disc shafts. If the disc hits a solid obstacle, the shear groove protects the toothed gear wheels, helping the operator reduce repair costs and downtime.

The Fast-fit knife mount system allows the knives to be changed in a matter of minutes.

The other models in the range are available with either central-pull or side-pull configurations.

Kuhn Australia director Bruno Fetiveau says the new range was the culmination of constant development and improvement by the brand to offer its customers the best implements on the market.

"It is a little known fact with farmers here in Australia that Kuhn is the largest agricultural implement manufacturer in the world," he says.

The company currently has nine production plants across the world, namely in France, the Netherlands, the United States, Brazil and Argentina.
