Silvan updates vineyard sprayer with powerful fan system

Silvan Australia has released the Turbo SCRAM vineyard-specific sprayer, which combines the high coverage and water economy of the company’s Turbomiser technology with a hydraulic drive fan system.

The 320mm-diameter, German-made hydraulic-drive centrifugal fans used in the Turbo SCRAM (Silvan Centrifugal Remote Air Module) are engineered to provide the high air velocity needed for optimum spray coverage, Silvan says.

The fans are mounted 2m high on each of the sprayer’s ‘wrap’ air tubes and have the key benefits of even air distribution and the elimination of leaf blockages or fruit damage by a sandblasting effect.

“Each of the fans operate highly efficiently and at a low noise level and are powered by the hitch mounted hydraulic power pack which can be disengaged during tank fills and spray agitation increasing operator safety,” Silvan says.

“The hitch also allows for a tighter turning circle especially headland turns at the end of rows.”

The ‘wrap’ tube assembly is supported by an anodised marine-grade aluminium exoskeleton. Its wrap-around profile is designed to create air turbulence in the vine canopy, the company says, while the multiple high-velocity air streams eliminate shadowing for optimal spray coverage.

Other features include a galvanised steel chassis frame and spray boom assembly with a hydraulic opening and closing function and rollers for easy row width adjustment; tandem axle suspension; and individual spray nozzle rate control with low nozzle wear and with a narrow droplet spectrum.

The Turbo SCRAM is an optional choice on Silvan 2,000, 3,500 and 4,000-litre tank capacity spray units and can also be fitted to the Silvan G2E and G2 sprayers.

“In creating the Silvan Turbo SCRAM we have employed feedback from a number of Australia’s top vineyard owners, managers and operators on the application features they are seeking,” Silvan Australia spraying specialist Gavin Wheatcroft says.

“Everyone in the field is driven by input costs, and in vineyard spraying operations the challenges today are to apply spray chemicals to maximum benefit, to achieve the most effective penetration into the vine canopy and to avoid downtime or reduced efficacy.”
